Aileen Milks a Cow – the photo story!

by aileen on October 3, 2009

Last week Jeff Kleinpeter himself invited me to the Kleinpeter Dairy Farm to milk a cow!
I’m still smiling! Mr Kleinpeter is a wonderful business man, and generally all-round great human being. There is no doubt that they really have happy cows. The dairy produces milk and (delicious) ice cream. It is one of very few dairy farms in the USA that is certified by the humane society.
I expected a fun morning milking a cow. I got so much more. A lesson about business ethics at their very best. I think the “our values” page on their website sums it up. It was an honor to milk one of the happiest cows in America.

Most of the day can’t be described in words, luckily I took along Gwen Aucoin, a wonderful photographer, and have amazing pictures to look back on. Enjoy.

What a wonderful cowducation!! Thank you for taking us on a pictorial journey with you! I really learned a lot just from your pictures. I just love cows, I think they are so beautiful. Those big, gorgeous eyes…

The day before you went (what day was that? confusing week for me) the kids and I were at the gas station food mart and I saw something that totally made me think of you and your day ahead. I had to get it. It’s just a little stoopid something (is that a ‘cow joke’? stoopid? heh) but, one of these days I’ll get it off in the mail to you.

So then Sammie and I were discussing you and the goals and she’s been running in PE and she had a tip for you. (She’s in 7th grade.) [Gawd, that looks odd to type about my little baby daughter. Heh.] Anyhoo – her tip was to try and stay at the same pace as much as you can. I guess that is what their coach is teaching them.

I have quite the cow crush at the moment… thank you for your kind comments.
Please tell Sammie that her advice is excellent, she may well end up being a great coach…. thank you.

If you lived closer you could have had some. They only sell it in Louisiana (and maybe a bit of Mississippi) at the moment. It’s sooooo good.

As always, great photos by Gwen. And an amazing way to capture this adventure for years to come. Congrats on accomplishing another goal, Aileen. I’m so looking forward to our 45 new friends at the end of the year.

I’m looking forward to the 45 people challenge too… I think you have the advantage being in the big city though, but I’m resourceful. You are missed in Lafayette. (by me mainly)
